SHOPIAN, MAY 11: District-level celebrations under the nationwide campaign “Somnath Swabhiman Parv – 75 Years of reconstruction and inauguration of Somnath Temple” were held on Sunday at the historic Tirath Raj Kapal Mochan Temple at Deegam, Nagbal in Shopian.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from devotees and local residents and was organised in line with the directions of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to highlight the spiritual and cultural legacy associated with the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple.

Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta, along with Additional District Development Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone and other senior officials, participated in the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said such programmes reflect India’s rich civilisational heritage and help strengthen the spirit of unity, faith, and communal harmony among people.

During the event, various devotional activities including bhajan sessions, puja rituals, cleanliness drives, public participation programmes, and awareness initiatives were organised at the temple premises.

Officials said the celebration aimed to promote cultural awareness and reinforce the values of heritage and collective identity among the local population.
