Poonch, Apr 4: All schools in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir remained closed on Saturday following heavy rainfall across the region, officials said.
According to an official communication issued by the office of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Poonch, the decision to suspend classwork was taken due to prevailing weather conditions and on the directions of higher authorities. “As per instructions received, all schools shall remain closed today on 04-04-2026 due to heavy rain,” the order stated.
The closure comes amid widespread rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir triggered by an active western disturbance, leading to a drop in temperatures and disruption of normal life in several areas.
Officials said the precautionary step was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, as continuous rainfall raised concerns over waterlogging, slippery roads, and accessibility, especially in hilly and vulnerable areas of the district. (Agency)
