Kupwara Police Arrest Three Drug Smugglers, Including Female Kingpin, in Major Crackdown
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kupwara Police on Thursday apprehended three drug smugglers, including a notorious female kingpin, from South Kashmir and recovered 1.71 kilograms of contraband from their possession.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani, said the arrests were made during a late-night operation when police intercepted a suspicious vehicle.
“Upon conducting a search, three individuals — including a woman identified as Haseena Begum — were found in possession of a substantial quantity of narcotics,” SSP Jeelani stated.
He added that Haseena Begum is a well-known drug trafficker with multiple FIRs registered against her across the Kashmir Valley, including North Kashmir. “She has been actively involved in smuggling contraband from South to North Kashmir,” the SSP said.
An FIR has been registered against all three accused, and the vehicle used for smuggling has been seized. Further investigations are underway to trace and dismantle the wider network linked to the racket.
The SSP also revealed that the female kingpin’s brother is a government employee. “We are writing to the Director of CAPD, requesting strict departmental action against him,” he said.
To enhance vigilance, especially in sensitive border areas like Tangdhar, the SSP announced that women personnel from the BSF and local police will be deployed to monitor and frisk female suspects. “Some female traffickers exploit their identity and circumstances to evade security checks. This practice will no longer be tolerated,” he warned.
Addressing previous cases, SSP Jeelani issued a strong message to absconders involved in drug trafficking in Tangdhar: “Your properties will be attached. There will be no escape from the law.”
He reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, stating that anyone found involved will face stringent legal action, including the attachment of assets.
