Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh will lead the Indian delegation at the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance, scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 6 to 7.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Global Dialogue is a landmark multi-stakeholder forum established under UN General Assembly Resolution 79/325 following the adoption of the Global Digital Compact as part of the Pact of the Future in September 2024.

The forum aims to strengthen international cooperation on artificial intelligence by promoting transparent, accountable and inclusive AI governance while complementing national, regional and global initiatives.

The dialogue will also receive the first annual report of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI (IISPA), which provides an independent scientific assessment of AI’s capabilities, opportunities and emerging risks.

Discussions during the two-day event will focus on four key themes: AI’s social and economic impact, bridging global AI divides, ensuring safe and trustworthy AI, and protecting human rights in the AI era.

The MEA said the initiative will support capacity building, particularly in developing countries, to ensure AI contributes to sustainable development and benefits all nations.

The United Nations has described the dialogue as a platform to ensure that AI governance reflects the priorities of all countries—not only the most technologically advanced—and promotes the equitable sharing of AI’s benefits.

Following the Geneva meeting, the second session of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance is scheduled to be held in New York in May 2027. (Agenciess)
