According to the complainant, the accused first came in contact with her in 2018, after which they developed a relationship. She alleged that he maintained physical relations with her on the false promise of marriage, resulting in multiple pregnancies, which he allegedly forced her to terminate while repeatedly delaying marriage.

The woman also accused him of extorting large sums of money and valuables under the pretext of medical emergencies and other personal expenses. She claimed that he pressured her to sell her land in Kanihama, Budgam, as well as her gold jewellery, and also took cash from her.

As per the complaint, the accused also availed a gold loan from a UCO Bank branch in Srinagar in the victim’s name. The money, she alleged, was used to construct his house and support his lifestyle.

The relationship reportedly turned sour when the victim insisted on marriage. She further alleged that the accused threatened her and her family, and warned of circulating her private and explicit photos and videos on social media.

FIR Registered After Initial Delay

The complainant, who earlier lived in old Srinagar, had shifted to another locality and initially attempted to lodge an FIR at Rajbagh police station, but her complaint was not acted upon. A case was later registered at the Women’s Police Station under FIR No. 0011 dated April 20, 2026, under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Sources said the victim had known the accused through a mutual acquaintance for a long time. They also claimed that the accused distanced himself after his son fell seriously ill. It is further alleged that the victim had provided over ₹48 lakh to the accused on multiple occasions for medical treatment and other expenses. Before the case became public, there were reported attempts to settle the matter, during which the accused allegedly paid ₹8 lakh to the woman.

Accused Arrested, Investigation Underway

Police have confirmed the arrest of the accused, and further investigation is underway. Officials also noted that while the accused had been managing his son’s medical treatment using funds borrowed from various sources, including university staff, these circumstances do not affect the seriousness of the allegations under investigation.
