Government Degree College Basohli, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, on Tuesday organised a Unity March under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, particularly among the youth.
The awareness programme was organised under the patronage of Principal Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, police officials and local residents.
The event began with the administration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to staying away from drugs and promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
Later, the Principal flagged off the rally from the college premises. The march passed through the main Plahi area to Diara before concluding back at the college campus.
SDPO Om Parkash Lalhal and police personnel also joined the students during the awareness rally, which attracted significant public attention across the area.
Participants carried banners and raised slogans such as “Say No to Drugs & Yes to Life,” “Nasha Chodo, Jeevan se Nata Jodo,” and “Nashe ko Bhagana Hai, Desh Ko Bachana Hai,” while interacting with members of the public and encouraging collective efforts to fight substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Prof. Raj Kiran Sharma appreciated the active participation of students, police officials and the local community. She stressed the importance of continuous awareness campaigns, education and community involvement in eliminating the growing menace of drug addiction.
She said that substance abuse poses a serious threat to the youth and emphasized that awareness initiatives like these are important steps towards building a drug-free society and achieving the vision of a healthier India.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge by participants to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and continue spreading awareness against drug abuse. Around 100 students participated in the rally.
