Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand), Jun 22: A tense standoff between authorities and a group of armed Nihangs continues at a gurudwara in Nagrasu, even after more than 40 hours, prompting the deployment of Army personnel in the area.
According to officials, the group—armed with traditional weapons such as spears and swords—has reportedly taken a Sikh devotee hostage inside the gurudwara premises.
Police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) teams remain stationed at the site as efforts continue to defuse the situation peacefully.
Sources said the Nihangs are demanding the release of four members of their sect who were earlier arrested following a clash in Chamoli on June 16. The situation remains sensitive, with security forces maintaining a tight perimeter around the area.
Authorities are attempting to resolve the matter through negotiations while ensuring law and order in the region
