Bengaluru, Jun 22: A political controversy has erupted in Karnataka after several NEET aspirants reportedly missed their re-exam in Bengaluru due to severe traffic congestion caused by a Congress rally in the city.
According to reports, at least three students were unable to reach their examination centres on time, while several others faced extreme delays as major roads remained heavily jammed during peak hours. The exam began at 2 pm, with candidates required to report 30 minutes earlier.
Parents alleged that the rally brought traffic to a standstill, forcing them to take risky routes in a desperate attempt to reach the centres. Some even claimed they had to ride on footpaths due to the rush.
The incident quickly turned political, with the BJP blaming the ruling Congress government in Karnataka for poor planning and lack of coordination. BJP leaders accused the administration of ignoring student welfare, stating that political events should have been shifted away from exam hours.
Congress leaders, however, defended the government and said that traffic advisories were issued in advance. They also pointed out that students have missed examinations in BJP-ruled states in the past, calling the criticism politically motivated.
Meanwhile, grieving parents expressed anger and disappointment, questioning how such a large event was allowed on an important exam day. Several students were seen in distress outside centres after being denied entry once gates were closed.
The issue has now escalated into a wider debate over governance, student safety, and political responsibility during national-level examinations.
