He said the facility has been introduced to make the Census process more convenient, transparent and citizen-friendly.

Rajesh Sharma explained that self-enumeration will enable residents to independently and securely submit their details from home. Upon successful completion, a unique Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) will be generated, which citizens must preserve carefully and share with Census teams during household verification visits.

He emphasized that self-declaration by citizens is crucial for maintaining accuracy and authenticity of Census records. Residents have been asked to furnish details relating to household members, socio-economic particulars and other notified Census parameters truthfully in the prescribed 34-point self-declaration format.

The Deputy Commissioner further informed that Census teams will conduct household verification and house listing from June 1 to June 30, 2026. He urged the public to actively participate in the self-enumeration phase to facilitate efficient field verification.

He clarified that Census officials visiting households will carry special identity cards for authentication and cautioned citizens against fraud, stating that no Census official will ask for any OTP during the exercise.

Calling for maximum public cooperation, Rajesh Sharma said successful conduct of Census 2027 depends upon collective participation and awareness.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner chaired a meeting of concerned officers to review modalities for the upcoming Census exercise in the district. The meeting discussed wider publicity of the self-enumeration process, training of field staff, deployment planning and inter-departmental coordination for smooth conduct of Census operations.

The meeting was attended by ADC Vishavjeet Singh, DSEO Sidharth Anand, Tehsildar Kathua Vikram Kumar, DIO NIC Shubham Singh, EO MC Prithvi Sangra besides ADCs, SDMs and other concerned officers who joined virtually.
