Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed heated scenes as BJP legislators protested a resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir. The resolution was subsequently passed by voice vote amid a BJP walkout.
The BJP objected particularly to references in the resolution to earlier Assembly resolutions from 2000 and 2024, arguing that these references brought issues of autonomy and special status into the statehood debate. BJP leaders said the party supports restoration of statehood but opposed the language used in the resolution.
The ruling National Conference maintained that the latest resolution primarily seeks restoration of full statehood and should be forwarded to the Centre. The confrontation led to slogans, protests and disruption inside the House before the resolution was adopted
