New Delhi: The Ministry of Education is working on a national examination-grade Computer-Based Testing (CBT) infrastructure strategy as part of plans to shift NEET-UG from its existing pen-and-paper format to online mode. The move follows the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the broader overhaul of India’s public examination system.
The proposed strategy aims to expand the availability of suitable examination centres, standardise infrastructure and enable the migration of more entrance examinations to CBT. The government is also examining the impact of the transition on rural candidates, women and students from low-connectivity districts.
A final decision on the NEET transition is expected after recommendations from the Nandan Nilekani-led high-level task force on examination reforms, along with consultations with the Health Ministry and National Medical Commission.
The National Testing Agency already conducts several major examinations, including JEE-Main, CUET and UGC-NET, in computer-based mode.
