Anti-insurgency operation enters fourth day in South Kashmir’s Kulgam

One militant killed so far, say officials

Security forces continued their operation in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district for the fourth consecutive day. So far, one militant has been killed and two soldiers have reportedly been injured.

According to the Chinar Corps, one militant was killed in a gunfight that began on Saturday and continued overnight in the Akhal area. The joint operation involved the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).

In a post on X, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said, “OP AKHAL, Kulgam: Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact.”

“One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues,” the post added.

On Friday, there were intermittent exchanges of fire between security forces and the militants holed up in the area. (Agencies)
