Five Arrested, Including Two Women, in Marwah Murder Case; One Accused Absconding

Kishtwar, June 7: Kishtwar Police have arrested five accused persons, including two women, in connection with the murder of a woman following an alleged land dispute in the Marwah area of Kishtwar district.

According to police, an information was initially received at Police Station Marwah that a woman identified as Zaina Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Magray and a resident of Pethgam Marwah, had sustained a head injury during a quarrel allegedly arising out of a land dispute and was found unconscious.

A police team immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured woman to Community Health Centre (CHC) Nowpachi for medical examination, where she was declared brought dead by the attending doctor.

Subsequently, at around 2:30 PM on Saturday, the deceased woman’s husband, Ghulam Ahmad Magray, lodged a written complaint at Police Station Marwah alleging that his wife had been beaten to death.

Based on the complaint, Police Station Marwah registered FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 103, 126(2), 191(2), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigation was immediately taken up.

According to police, the accused include Ghulam Haider Malik Son Of Ghulam Ahmed Malik, his three sons Zahoor Ahmad Malik, Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik and Muzaffar Ahmad Malik, his wife Sara Begum, and his daughter-in-law Shahina Begum, wife of Zahoor Ahmad Malik, all residents of Pethgam Marwah.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Naresh Singh said that acting swiftly, a special team led by the SHO Police Station Marwah arrested five accused persons, including the two women. However, one accused, Muzaffar Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Haider Malik, fled from the spot and efforts are underway to apprehend him at the earliest.

After conducting medico-legal formalities and post-mortem examination, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for the last rites.

The SSP said that the investigation is in progress and all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. He reiterated that Kishtwar Police remains committed to ensuring justice and taking strict legal action against all those involved in the crime.
