SRINAGAR, MAY 15: In a major initiative to align Jammu and Kashmir’s traditional handicrafts and handloom strengths with India’s global trade ambitions, the Handicrafts and Handloom Department Kashmir under the Industries and Commerce Department Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, organized a two-day consultative workshop at SKICC Srinagar on “Textiles for Global Markets: Strategy for Achieving USD 100 Billion Exports by 2030”.
The workshop brought together policymakers, exporters, industry leaders, artisans, entrepreneurs, Export Promotion Councils (EPCs), DGFT representatives and stakeholders to discuss strategies for boosting exports, strengthening value chains and positioning Jammu and Kashmir products in global textile markets under the “Local to Global” framework.
On Day-2, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce interacted with stakeholders and held detailed deliberations on export promotion, market access, value chain strengthening and enhancing Jammu and Kashmir’s presence in global textile trade. He highlighted the strong potential of the region’s handicrafts and handloom sector and stressed the need for branding, quality improvement and export competitiveness.
The two-day programme included discussions under the District Export Action Plan (DEAP) focusing on district-specific strengths, followed by State/UT Export Action Plan (SEAP) consultations on policy interventions and export-oriented growth strategies.
Officials informed that the Ministry of Textiles has designated Budgam and Baramulla as Aspirational Districts, while Srinagar has been identified as a Champion District, recognizing their strong textile and handicraft potential and enabling focused support for infrastructure and export promotion.
Participants discussed key themes including Foreign Trade Policy 2023, District Export Hub initiatives, Free Trade Agreements, sustainability frameworks, ESG standards, cluster development models and strengthening linkages between artisans and international markets.
It was further informed that recommendations from the workshop will be placed in the National Consultative Summit scheduled for June 2026, which will contribute to the formulation of a national roadmap for achieving USD 100 billion textile exports by 2030.
The workshop is expected to significantly strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s export ecosystem and integrate its globally recognized handicrafts and textile products into international value chains.
