Doctor Confirms Veteran Screenwriter Is Stable; Family Members, Including Salman Khan, Visit Him at Lilavati Hospital

Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan was admitted to the ICU at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra on Tuesday, February 17, raising concern among fans and well-wishers. In an official update, his treating physician, Dr Jalil Parkar, confirmed that the 90-year-old is stable but remains under close observation.

The hospital statement confirmed that Salim Khan was brought to the emergency ward around 8:30 am by family doctor Dr Sandeep Chopra. After initial treatment, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on the first floor for further monitoring.

A team of specialists, including neurologist Dr Vinay Chavan, cardiologist Dr Ajit Menon, neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, and Dr Bineet Ahluwalia, attended to him. The hospital stated that detailed medical information is being withheld at the family’s request. A formal press bulletin is expected to be issued at 11 am with the consent of the family, while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Doctors reiterated that although he is stable, he continues to be closely monitored in the ICU.

Following the news of his hospitalisation, family members including his wife Helen, sons Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan, daughter Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and son-in-law Aayush Sharma were seen arriving at the hospital. Alvira was accompanied by her husband Atul Agnihotri.

About His Career

Salim Khan began his journey in cinema with small acting roles before finding his true calling in screenwriting. Along with Javed Akhtar, he revolutionised Hindi cinema in the 1970s and 80s. Their iconic films like Zanjeer, Deewar, and Don played a crucial role in shaping Amitabh Bachchan’s “angry young man” persona and superstardom.

Even after parting ways with Javed Akhtar, Salim continued to write successful films such as Angaaray, Naam, Kabzaa, and Jurm.

He was recently featured in the docu-series Angry Young Men, which chronicled his influential screenwriting journey alongside Javed Akhtar. (Agency)
