Sakeena Itoo Reviews Development Projects in J&K, Stresses Inclusive and Timely Implementation

Minister assesses Education, Health and Social Welfare sectors; directs faster execution and improved service delivery

Srinagar, May 08: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education Sakeena Itoo today chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Srinagar to assess the progress of ongoing developmental projects across Jammu and Kashmir under the Education, Health, and Social Welfare departments.

During the detailed review, the Minister examined key aspects including project monitoring mechanisms, fund utilization, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure efficient implementation of welfare and infrastructure initiatives across the Union Territory.

While reviewing the Education Department, Sakeena Itoo took stock of construction and upgradation of school buildings, establishment of smart classrooms, improvement of laboratory and library facilities, and provision of basic amenities in educational institutions. She stressed the need for quality infrastructure in schools and colleges to provide students with a better learning environment.

She further emphasized the importance of modern educational facilities, especially in rural and remote areas, directing officials to expedite pending works and enhance digital learning infrastructure across institutions.

In the Health Department review, the Minister assessed ongoing hospital infrastructure projects, upgradation of medical facilities, and strengthening of healthcare delivery systems. She reiterated the need for accessible and affordable healthcare services, particularly in far-flung and underserved regions.

She directed officials to speed up healthcare projects and ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines, medical equipment, and manpower. She also instructed the constitution of a committee to evaluate hospital facilities, including lifts, oxygen plants, and public utilities, and submit a report within a week.

While reviewing the Social Welfare sector, Sakeena Itoo instructed officials to ensure maximum coverage of eligible beneficiaries under various welfare schemes and to intensify awareness drives so that people are well-informed about government initiatives.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment towards inclusive and equitable development, she said sustained efforts are being made to strengthen public service delivery and infrastructure across key sectors. She directed officials to ensure timely completion of all projects so that benefits reach people without delay.

She also instructed officers to consult local MLAs during project planning and ensure execution of all budget-announced works within stipulated timelines while maintaining transparency and accountability.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Finance and Planning divisions of the concerned departments along with other administrative officials.
