Jammu, Jan 08: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Jammu of Crime Branch J&K has registered as many as 11 FIRs against individuals involved in a series of serious economic crimes including impersonation, cheating, fraud, forgery of revenue records and misuse of official positions. The cases primarily relate to duping innocent people on the pretext of providing government jobs and other benefits.
According to official sources, the FIRs were registered following written complaints received from aggrieved complainants. After conducting a thorough assessment of the complaints on factual as well as legal grounds, the allegations were found to disclose the commission of grave offences such as cheating, impersonation, forgery, criminal conspiracy and abuse of official authority.
Officials revealed that the complaints pertain to a wide range of fraudulent activities. These include irregular issuance of Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) in District Doda, bank loan frauds using forged KYC documents, cheating of job aspirants by falsely promising government employment, issuance of fake appointment letters and illegal diversion of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) loan amounts.
In several other cases, the accused are alleged to have used forged educational certificates to secure government jobs. The investigations also cover preparation and circulation of fake government communications, visa-related frauds and manipulation of revenue and service records to obtain compassionate appointments under SRO-43.
The allegations further include misuse of official position by public servants, tampering with public records, generation of illegal financial gains, issuance of threats to complainants and causing substantial wrongful losses to the government exchequer as well as financial institutions.
Sh. Mohd Fiesel Qureshi, JKPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch EOW Jammu, while reaffirming the commitment of the Crime Branch to safeguard public trust, has advised citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any instances of economic offences. He urged people to approach the Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu at the earliest to ensure timely legal action against offenders.
Investigations in all the registered cases are underway, and further action will be taken strictly in accordance with law.
