J-K Higher Education Department Forms Committee to Probe Student’s Alleged Suicide at GDC Doda; Assistant Professor Suspended Pending Inquiry

Doda, Jan 21: The Jammu & Kashmir Higher Education Department has constituted a committee to investigate the alleged suicide of a student at Government Degree College (GDC), Doda, which reportedly occurred on January 16, 2026, according to a government order.

“It is hereby ordered that a committee of the following officers of the Higher Education Department is constituted to enquire into the incident of the reportedly suicide committed on 16.01.2026 by a student at Government Degree College, Doda,” the order reads.

The committee members include:

  • Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department
  • Sanjay Kumar Tickoo (JKAS), Deputy Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department
  • Syed Ishrat Parvez, Under Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department

In a separate government order, an Assistant Professor has been suspended pending inquiry. The order states:
“Pending enquiry into the matter, the Competent Authority has ordered that Prof. Manzoor Ahmad, Assistant Professor (Commerce) at GDC Doda, is hereby placed under suspension and shall remain attached with the Office of Director Colleges, J&K with immediate effect, until further orders.”   (Agencies)
