A young PARA trooper sustained critical injuries during the ongoing encounter between security forces and Pakistani terrorists in the dense Kalaban forest area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Wednesday morning.

According to official sources, the injured trooper has been identified as Agniveer (General Duty) Kapil, aged 22 years, resident of Mangatpur village in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is serving under Service No. 0601260P with Unit 2 PARA (attached with 11 Rashtriya Rifles).

Kapil suffered a gunshot wound on his left shoulder during the fierce exchange of fire with heavily armed terrorists believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit.

Following initial treatment at a forward base, he was airlifted to the Northern Command Hospital, where he is currently admitted to the ICU. Medical officials confirmed that he remains on the Dangerously Ill List (DIL) but is responding positively to treatment.

Security sources said the operation, launched in the early hours of Wednesday, is being carried out jointly by the Army’s 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 2 PARA (Special Forces), and Jammu & Kashmir Police. The encounter site, located in the rugged and densely forested terrain of Kalaban, remains under a tight cordon as contact continues with at least three trapped Pakistani terrorists.

This is the third major encounter in Kishtwar district this year, part of a renewed counter-terror campaign across the Jammu division following intelligence inputs about the movement of foreign terrorists in upper forest belts.

Further details regarding the ongoing operation and the condition of the injured trooper are awaited.
