Dr. Jahanzaib Sirwal today strongly appealed to the Government to ensure equitable development across Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that demands for establishing a National Law University and other premier institutions should not be influenced by divisive regional politics between Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Dr. Sirwal said that promoting institutions on regional lines is inherently divisive and should be discouraged in the larger interest of unity and inclusive growth. However, if regional considerations are inevitably part of the decision-making process, the long-neglected Chenab Valley – comprising Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Ramban – must be accorded the highest priority.
Dr. Sirwal mentioned that Kishtwar district has emerged as a major hub for hydroelectric power projects, including Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW), Kwar (540 MW), and several others, which will position the region as North India’s power powerhouse by generating thousands of megawatts of clean energy. Despite these significant contributions to national energy security, the people of Chenab Valley continue to face acute shortages of higher education institutions, quality healthcare facilities, and basic infrastructure.
Dr. Sirwal said it is unjust that areas making immense sacrifices in terms of land and resources for national development remain deprived of corresponding benefits. He urged the Hon’ble Chief Minister, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Central Government to prioritize the Chenab Valley, with special focus on Kishtwar, for the proposed National Law University as well as any upcoming medical colleges, engineering institutions, or other centres of excellence.
Dr. Sirwal mentioned that true development must rise above regional biases and reach the most deserving and underserved areas, ensuring that the youth of Chenab Valley get equal opportunities to progress in their homeland.
Dr. Sirwal called upon all stakeholders to work towards a united Jammu and Kashmir where progress benefits every corner without discrimination.
Prioritize Chenab Valley, Especially Kishtwar, for Proposed Law University and Other Key Institutions
