Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision Reviewed as J&K Prepares for Grassroots Polls

Jammu, March 2, 2026:
As part of preparations for the next phase of grassroots democratic elections, the State Election Commission, UT of Jammu and Kashmir has convened a high-level meeting to review the revision of the Panchayat Electoral Roll–2026 and the status of delimitation of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

According to an official meeting notice issued by the Commission, the review meeting will be held on March 3, 2026 (Tuesday) at 2:30 PM through video conference from the Meeting Hall, Vikas Bhawan, JDA Complex, Jammu. The meeting is being convened under the directions of the Hon’ble State Election Commissioner.

The agenda of the meeting includes assessment of the ongoing revision of Panchayat electoral rolls for 2026 and a review of delimitation of ULBs along with updation of control tables. These exercises are considered crucial to ensure free, fair and transparent local body elections in the Union Territory.

All Deputy Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, along with Deputy District Election Officers (Dy. DEOs), District Informatics Officers (DIOs) and Electoral Network Technicians (ENTs), have been directed to attend the meeting through video conference. The meeting link will be shared separately.

Senior officers including the Secretary to Government, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Directors of Rural Development Departments of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, Director Panchayati Raj J&K, and the State Informatics Officer, NIC J&K, have been requested to attend the meeting, either in person or through video conference.

Arrangements have also been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply and technical coordination for the smooth conduct of the video conference. The agenda of the meeting has been enclosed with the official notice.

The developments assume importance as the tenure of the District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson came to an end on February 24, 2026. The tenure of elected Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir came to an end in January 2024, while the term of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) concluded in October 2023.
