New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has criticised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of disrespecting constitutional institutions and questioning his approach towards parliamentary proceedings.
During her remarks, Sitharaman challenged Rahul Gandhi to engage in a direct debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside Parliament, saying that important political and national issues should be discussed on the floor of the House rather than through allegations and public statements.
The Finance Minister’s remarks came amid an ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Congress over parliamentary conduct, institutional accountability and the functioning of democratic institutions.
Sitharaman’s challenge to Gandhi has added another flashpoint to the political exchanges between the two parties, with the debate highlighting the continuing differences between the government and the Opposition over the role of Parliament and the responsibilities of political leaders.
The remarks are likely to trigger further reactions from Congress leaders as the political face-off between Rahul Gandhi and the BJP leadership continues.
