Washington, November 4: Democrats have won control of the United States Senate in the 2026 midterm elections, ending Republican dominance in the upper chamber and delivering a major setback to President Donald Trump’s political agenda.
The Democrats secured a Senate majority after flipping several Republican-held seats, including victories in traditionally Republican strongholds such as Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio and South Carolina.
The results mark a significant political shift in Washington, as Republicans entered the elections holding a 53-47 majority in the Senate.
According to reports, Democratic victories across key battleground states helped the party cross the 51-seat threshold required for Senate control.
The outcome is being viewed as a major setback for the Republican Party and could reshape the political landscape during the remaining years of Trump’s presidency.
With control of the Senate, Democrats are set to gain greater influence over legislation, congressional investigations and presidential appointments.
The 2026 midterm results also reflect growing political challenges for Republicans as voters delivered their verdict on the Trump administration’s policies.
