Sources said the primary objective of the meeting was to bring an end to the prevailing groupism within the Jammu & Kashmir Congress and restore organisational discipline and collective functioning ahead of future political challenges.

During the deliberations, the functioning of the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and the controversies that have surfaced in recent months reportedly came under detailed review. The JKPCC President is understood to have been reminded of his constitutional responsibilities and advised to strictly function within the framework of the Constitution of the Indian National Congress.

According to sources, the party leadership made it clear that the Congress organisation belongs collectively to its workers, leaders and office bearers and cannot be treated as the domain of any individual. Strong emphasis was reportedly laid on maintaining respect for all Congress workers, senior leaders and functionaries irrespective of their position within the party.

Sources further disclosed that concerns were expressed over the style of functioning adopted in certain organisational matters. It was reportedly conveyed that party positions should be used to strengthen the organisation rather than dictate terms to workers and leaders.

In another important development, the high command is learnt to have issued strict instructions against public statements targeting individual Congress leaders. The leadership reportedly expressed concern that such actions were damaging the party’s unity and public image.

Sources also revealed that a mechanism has been put in place to closely examine the day-to-day functioning of the JKPCC and various issues relating to organisational conduct. The findings and recommendations are expected to be submitted directly to the party high command for further action.

Political observers view the meeting as a strong intervention by the Congress leadership to contain internal divisions and reinforce collective leadership within the Jammu & Kashmir unit. The developments are being seen as a clear message that indiscipline, factional politics and public infighting will not be tolerated.
Further developments and official Statement by the Congress party are still awaited.
