Kishtwar Police Arrest Repeat Drug Peddler Near Sarthal Morh; Heroin Recovered

Jammu/Kishtwar, April 1, 2026:
Kishtwar Police on Tuesday arrested a habitual drug peddler near Sarthal Morh on the Jammu–Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Suhail Ahmed, son of Shabir Ahmed R/o Bandreena Kishtwar. He has been booked under FIR No. 64/2026 under sections 8/20/21/22 of the NDPS Act.

According to officials, approximately 6–7 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. The accused, a known drug peddler, has reportedly been arrested multiple times in the past in similar cases.

Sources said he was travelling from Jammu towards Kishtwar when he deboarded the vehicle in an attempt to evade a police naka laid at Sarthal Morh. However, acting on prior surveillance, the police team swiftly intercepted and apprehended him.

The operation was carried out by a team led by the Chowki Officer of Police Post Shalimar under the supervision of SHO Kishtwar Firdous Ahmed and DySP Headquarters Kishtwar Dr Ishan Gupta, with overall supervision of SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the recovered contraband.
