Srinagar, Feb 03: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Monday announced that he had rejected an amendment moved by Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Article 370, stating that “a resolution on the same was already passed by the House.”
After Question Hour, according to news agency (Agencies), Lone questioned the Speaker’s decision to disallow amendments on Article 370, Article 35A, statehood, and the rationalization of reservation.
The Speaker said the amendment was disallowed because the Rules prohibit discussion on matters that have already been debated or decided by the House.
Regarding statehood, the Speaker clarified that its restoration is outside the competence of the Government.
Lone challenged the ruling, noting that he was not seeking a law on statehood but was merely expressing an intention regarding its restoration. (Agencies)
