Srinagar, Apr 07: Jammu and Kashmir Police have busted an interstate Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module and arrested five individuals, including Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, who had been evading arrest for 16 years and had established bases outside the Union Territory, officials said on Tuesday.

Among those arrested is also a Pakistani militant, Usman alias Khubaib. The operation, carried out jointly by J&K Police and central agencies, involved searches at 19 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana, leading to the recovery of incriminating material.

Investigations revealed a well-organised LeT network involved in providing logistical and financial support to militants.

Officials said three residents of Srinagar — Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, Adil Rashid Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Mama — were among those arrested for allegedly providing shelter, food and other assistance to the militants.

The probe further suggests that a foreign militant managed to travel abroad using forged documents and a fake identity with the help of the LeT network operating in different states.

According to officials, the militants had infiltrated into India around 16 years ago and remained active across various districts of the Kashmir Valley, during which they handled nearly 40 foreign militants, most of whom were later neutralised by security forces. (Agency)
