Srinagar, Apr 07 : The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) on Tuesday conducted a major enforcement drive across all districts of the Kashmir division, issuing 822 challans and recommending suspension of 196 driving licences for various traffic violations.

The drive was carried out under the supervision of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir and monitored by the Transport Commissioner, J&K, focusing on busy areas and accident-prone locations, officials said.

Special teams were deployed to check violations such as driving without valid licences, overloading, not wearing seat belts or helmets, using mobile phones while driving, and ignoring emission norms.

During the operation, a large number of vehicles were inspected. Officials said 822 violators were challaned, 124 vehicles were blacklisted on the spot, and 196 driving licences were recommended for suspension. A total fine of Rs 18.56 lakh was collected under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The drive aims to promote responsible driving and reduce road accidents, officials said, urging people to follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies.

Further drives will continue in the coming weeks as part of an ongoing campaign to ensure safer roads across the Kashmir division. (Agency)
