Police Station Bemina on Thursday registered FIR No. 111 of 2025 against a Srinagar-based husband–wife duo, Jan Mohammad Dar and Bilquees Akhtar, accused of cheating people of crores of rupees through forged documents, fabricated land records, and false promises of lucrative property deals.
The FIR follows a November 15 order by City Judge/JMIC Srinagar Abdul Bari, who noted that evidence indicated cognizable offences requiring a full police investigation.
The couple allegedly posed as facilitators of high-value land deals in Srinagar and nearby areas, collecting money from multiple victims after showing forged ownership papers, false revenue extracts, and fabricated agreements. Victims claim the duo would disappear once payments were made, leaving them entangled in disputes over non-existent or litigated land.
Reports also indicate that the duo filed false litigations against victims to delay recovery of money and may be linked to a larger land mafia network employing intimidation and forged documents. Jan Mohammad Dar has previously faced similar fraud allegations and was arrested last year before being released on bail.
Following the court order, Bemina police have begun a detailed investigation, examining documents, recording victim statements, tracing money, and identifying potential accomplices. Officials expect the case scope to widen as more complaints surface. (Sources)
