Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat on Thursday instructed district police heads across the Union Territory to closely monitor social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation that could threaten public safety and order.
The J&K Director General of Police (DGP) also chaired a security review meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir to assess the prevailing situation and discuss measures to further strengthen the security framework, a police spokesman said.
At the outset, zonal inspector generals and heads of various wings briefed the DGP on the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory, a police spokesman said.
The DGP was also updated on recent anti-terror operations and actions taken in response. Discussions focused on emerging security issues, ongoing challenges, and strategies to effectively address them.
During the meeting, DGP Nalin Prabhat urged district heads to closely monitor social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation that could endanger public safety and order.
He further directed officers to intensify surveillance on anti-national elements, step up area domination efforts, and strengthen security around vulnerable targets to ensure fool-proof measures.
The J&K police chief also raised concerns over rising general crime in certain areas and instructed district heads to boost community policing and expand public outreach programmes, the spokesman added. (Agencies)
