Doda Police Seizes 27 Bottles of Illicit Liquor at Bhella Morh, One Booked Under Excise Act

Doda, May 14: Continuing its crackdown against the illegal trade and transportation of liquor, Doda Police on Thursday seized 27 bottles of illicit liquor during naka checking at Bhella Morh in the Thathri area and booked one person under the Excise Act.

Officials said that a police team of Police Post Karara, functioning under Police Station Thathri and led by the Incharge Police Post Karara, established a special naka at Bhella Morh for checking vehicles and suspicious movement.

During the checking drive, a vehicle bearing registration number JK06-4033 travelling from Karara towards Bhella was intercepted and subjected to inspection. Police said that a person sitting on the front seat beside the driver was carrying two boxes.

On questioning, the individual identified himself as Puran Singh, son of Beli Ram, resident of Kemeja, Tehsil Bhella.

During the search of the boxes, police recovered and seized 27 bottles of illicit liquor amounting to approximately 16.405 litres. The seized consignment included bottles of McDowell’s whiskey, Special Whiskey, Kingfisher beer and Golfer’s Shot liquor.

In this connection, FIR No. 39/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Thathri, while further investigation into the matter is underway.

Doda Police said that it remains committed to maintaining law and order and taking strict action against illegal activities across the district.
