New Delhi, Mar 7: The prices of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders have been increased by Rs 60 and Rs 114.5, respectively, amid rising energy costs linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Non-subsidised LPG, used by households other than Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, will now cost Rs 913 for a 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi, up from Rs 853, according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website. This marks the second price hike in less than a year.
Industry officials said the increase follows a sharp rise in global energy prices since the outbreak of military conflict in West Asia. Despite the hike, cooking gas in India remains cheaper compared with neighbouring countries. The new rates are effective from March 7.
This is the second revision in 11 months, following a Rs 50 increase in April last year. In other cities, non-subsidised LPG now costs Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata, and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.
Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, over 10 crore poor households who have received free LPG connections since 2016, will continue to get a Rs 300 subsidy per 14.2-kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year.
