Inspiring Success: Visually Impaired Candidate and Labourer’s Son Among 17 from J&K Clearing UPSC Civil Services Exam 2025

JAMMU, Mar 7 : A visually impaired candidate and the son of a labourer are among seventeen candidates from Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory who have cleared the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, results of which were declared today.

The successful candidates from J&K include Suvan Sharma (AIR-148), Suganda Gupta (AIR-207), Towseef Ahmad Ganie (AIR-254), Ritika Bhan (AIR-456), Sooyash Raj Shivam (AIR-572), Muneeb Afzal Parrah (AIR-581), Ghulam Maya Din (AIR-683), Dwarka Gaadhi (AIR-721), Akash Jaggi (AIR-747), Koh-e-Safa (AIR-763), Yassar Ahmad Bhatti (AIR-811), Abhishek Kumar Dhyawna (AIR-820), Pankaj Kumar (AIR-856), Mohd Ajaz Ul-Rehman (AIR-869), Azhar Asif Khan (AIR-886), Mohd Sarfraz Choudhary (AIR-936), and Irfan Ahmad Lone (AIR-957).

Irfan Ahmad Lone of Manzpora in Bandipora, visually impaired since birth, has drawn widespread appreciation from locals for his inspiring achievement. Despite his challenges, Lone pursued his studies diligently and successfully cleared one of the country’s toughest examinations.

Towseef Ahmad Ganie from Puchal village in Pulwama, son of a labourer, also overcame financial hardships to secure a place among the successful candidates. Ganie, a veterinarian posted in Poonch, appeared for the exam for the second time, having missed qualification last year. His father, Mohammad Ishaq Ganie, expressed pride in his son’s determination and success.

Other notable achievers include Suvan Sharma, son of Dr T R Raina (ex-HoD, Blood Bank, GMC Jammu) and Nirmal Sharma (Retd IAS), who is currently in IRMS and has previously cleared AD Cooperatives and JKPS exams. Sugandha Gupta of Shakti Nagar, Jammu, cleared the exam in her first attempt, attributing success to consistent hard work, discipline, and focused preparation.

Kashmiri Pandit candidate Ritika Renu Bhan hails from Shopian district in south Kashmir. Akash Jaggi, son of retired Principal Daleep Jaggi and brother of DySP Shivam Jaggi, is from Mohalla Khorinar, Poonch. Dr Koh-e-Safa (AIR-763) is daughter of Mehmood Chowdhary, Principal & Session Judge, while Mohd Ajaz Ul-Rehman (AIR-869) is son of former Poonch MLA Shah Mohd Tantray. Muneeb Afzal Parrah (AIR-581) is a resident of Krandigam, Bijbehara, Anantnag.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have congratulated all successful candidates.

Anuj Agnihotri, an MBBS graduate, has topped the Civil Services Examination 2025, followed by Rajeshwari Suve M and Akansh Dhull securing second and third ranks respectively. Among the top five candidates, one is a woman and four are men, while the top 25 include 11 women and 14 men.

A total of 958 candidates — 659 men and 299 women — have qualified for appointment to various central civil services. Of these, 348 candidatures are provisional. The UPSC reported 1,087 vacancies for the 2025 cycle, including 180 IAS, 55 IFS, 150 IPS, 507 Central Services Group ‘A’, and 195 Group ‘B’ posts.

The preliminary examination was held on May 25, 2025, with 5,76,793 candidates appearing out of 9,37,876 applicants. 14,161 candidates qualified for the written (main) examination in August 2025, and 2,736 appeared for the personality test (interview).

Educational backgrounds of the top 25 candidates span Engineering, Humanities, Science, Commerce, Law, Medical Science, and Mass Media from premier institutions such as IITs, National Law Universities, AIIMS, DTU, Anna University, University of Delhi, and University of Mumbai. Optional subjects included Anthropology, Commerce & Accountancy, Chemistry, Economics, Electrical Engineering, History, Mathematics, Medical Science, Philosophy, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, and Sociology.

Category-wise, 317 candidates belong to General, 104 to Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 306 to Other Backward Class (OBC), 158 to Scheduled Caste (SC), and 73 to Scheduled Tribe (ST). UPSC will release detailed marks within 15 days of result declaration. (Agency)
