The case was registered following a written complaint regarding theft in a residential house. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 dated 09.01.2026 was lodged at Police Station Domana under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigation was promptly initiated.

Acting swiftly, the investigating team secured the scene of occurrence and called in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for scientific examination. The FSL experts thoroughly examined the crime scene, lifted chance fingerprints, and documented them through detailed photography for further analysis. CCTV footage from nearby areas was also scrutinized to gather corroborative evidence.

The lifted fingerprints were subsequently processed and compared through the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). During the course of investigation, the Fingerprint Bureau confirmed a match between the fingerprints lifted from the crime scene and those of the accused, Bhader Ali S/o Sher Mohd, resident of Keran Nallah, Bantalab.

Following the confirmation, the accused was taken into custody. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to committing the theft and disclosed that he had sold the stolen gold ornaments — comprising two ear rings — to one Bobby S/o Puran Dass, resident of Digiana, Jammu.

Acting on this disclosure, the police conducted further investigation and successfully recovered the stolen gold ornaments from the residence of accused Bobby at Digiana. Both accused persons are presently in custody.

This recovery through fingerprint matching using NAFIS marks a significant and one-of-its-kind achievement for Jammu (Rural) Police, underscoring their scientific, technology-driven approach in crime detection and investigation.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused are involved in other similar theft cases.

Jammu (Rural) Police reiterated their commitment to leveraging advanced forensic tools and ensuring swift, professional, and transparent investigations to maintain law and order in the region.
