Doda, May 14: Continuing its crackdown against narcotics trafficking under the ongoing anti-drug campaigns, Doda Police on Tuesday arrested an alleged drug peddler in the Thathri area and recovered charas-like substance from his possession.
Officials said that a police team from Police Station Thathri led by SI Naseeb Singh was conducting routine checking and patrolling in Thathri town when a suspicious individual working as a rehri vendor near Main Bazaar Thathri was intercepted at around 4 PM.
The accused was searched in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, during which police recovered nearly 50 to 55 grams of charas-like substance packed in a black polythene bag from the pocket of his trousers. Police said the contraband was allegedly meant for illegal sale in the area.
During preliminary questioning, the accused identified himself as Mussarat Hussain, son of Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of Badanoo and presently residing at Thathri.
Following the recovery, Police Station Thathri registered FIR No. 38/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation into the case.
Doda Police reiterated its commitment to eliminating the drug menace from society and appealed to the public to share information regarding drug peddling and narcotics-related activities with the police.
