DC Srinagar, SMC Commissioner Review Census-2027 Preparations

Officials directed to ensure smooth self-enumeration, accurate house listing operations and timely CMMS data updation across Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MAY 15: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and Principal Census Officer (Rural) Akshay Labroo and Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Principal Census Officer (Urban) Faz Lul Haseeb on Thursday chaired a joint meeting of district and sectoral officers to review preparations for Self-Enumeration and House Listing Operations under Phase-I of Census-2027.

The meeting was held at the Banquet Hall Conference Complex Srinagar and focused on reviewing modalities for self-enumeration, progress of House Listing Operations (HLO) and updation of data on the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS).

During the meeting, the officers undertook a comprehensive review of preparatory activities related to Census-2027 with emphasis on smooth implementation of self-enumeration procedures, timely completion of house listing operations and real-time data updation on the CMMS portal.

Speaking on the occasion, Akshay Labroo emphasized the importance of maintaining accuracy, transparency and coordination during the Census exercise, terming it a vital national exercise for planning and policy formulation. He directed all concerned officers to ensure meticulous conduct of House Listing Operations and stressed that no household should remain uncovered during the enumeration process.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed line departments to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and provide logistical and technical support to field staff for smooth execution of the exercise. He also directed officers to monitor field-level progress on a daily basis and ensure timely updation of data on the CMMS portal to avoid discrepancies and delays.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, the DC called for intensified awareness campaigns at the grassroots level so that citizens are properly informed about the self-enumeration process and the significance of accurate census data. He also stressed capacity building and handholding support for field staff to ensure effective handling of digital platforms and census procedures.

While reviewing the urban component of Census operations, the officers directed all Charge Officers and field teams to ensure proper verification and timely completion of House Listing Operations across all municipal wards of Srinagar city.

Faz Lul Haseeb underscored the importance of maintaining data integrity and adhering strictly to prescribed Census guidelines and timelines. The officers directed all departments to adopt a proactive and coordinated approach for successful conduct of Census Phase-I.

During the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Charge Officer (Rural) Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz briefed the participants regarding preparations and action plans in rural areas, while Joint Commissioner SMC and Charge Officer (Urban) Nuzhat Qureshi shared progress achieved in urban areas.

District Statistics and Evaluation Officer Shah Ismail Bangroo gave a detailed presentation regarding the ongoing Census exercise and informed that the self-enumeration phase will be conducted from May 17 to May 31, 2026, through the official Census portal.

He further informed that Census teams will conduct household visits from June 1 to June 30, 2026, for scrutiny, verification and house listing operations across the district.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from various departments including district administration, police, education, municipal bodies and engineering wings.
