Abdullah said it was unfortunate that the people of the region were being punished for a crime in which they had no role.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced that his government will launch a door-to-door signature campaign in the coming weeks to press for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Addressing the 79th Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Abdullah said the campaign would cover every assembly constituency to gather people’s signatures in support of statehood.

“The time has come to move beyond writing letters and making statements. My colleagues and I will personally visit every assembly constituency, collect signatures, and present the document to the Centre and other concerned authorities,” he said. (Agencies)
