Crime Branch EOW Jammu Nabs Absconding Fraud Accused After 7 Years; Cheating Gang Busted

Jammu, June 11: In a major breakthrough, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has apprehended an absconding accused involved in a cheating and criminal conspiracy case registered as FIR No. 21/2019 under Sections 420 and 120-B RPC at Police Station Crime Branch Jammu.

The accused, identified as Riyaz Ahmad Matoo, a resident of Sada Kadal, Rainawari, Srinagar, had allegedly been evading arrest for the past seven years by frequently changing his locations across Srinagar, Delhi and other parts of the country while concealing his whereabouts.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs and following sustained surveillance, a special team led by DySP Tahir Hussain, Inspector Naveen Sharma and Inspector Chander Bhushan, under the supervision of SSP Crime Branch EOW Jammu Faisal Qureshi, launched extensive field operations and successfully tracked down the accused from an interior area of Srinagar.

Officials said the arrest marks a significant success in the long-pending investigation and has led to the busting of a gang allegedly involved in fraud and cheating activities. A preliminary chargesheet had already been filed before the Court of JMIC (Sub-Judge), Jammu against two accused, while Riyaz Ahmad Matoo had remained absconding.

Crime Branch officials stated that further investigation into the case is underway.

SSP Faisal Qureshi appealed to the public to report incidents of fraud and financial deception so that offenders can be brought to justice and similar crimes can be effectively curbed.
