The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major organisational reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh, replacing all six regional presidents and appointing a new team of 64 office-bearers as it prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The reshuffle comes after the party’s setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the politically crucial state. BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary released the new list after extensive consultations with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior central leadership.
The new structure includes 19 vice presidents, eight general secretaries, and several state-level office bearers, with an emphasis on caste balance, regional representation, and inclusion of youth and women.
According to party sources, the reorganisation is also aimed at countering Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘PDA’ (Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpasankhyak) strategy, which is believed to have played a key role in the SP’s strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
A significant focus has been placed on Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who form the largest segment of the new team. Nearly half of the office-bearers belong to OBC communities, with representation from multiple sub-castes including Jats, Kurmis, Gurjars, Shakyas, Lodhis, and others.
The BJP has also ensured representation from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, along with a notable presence of Brahmin leaders and other upper-caste groups, reflecting a carefully balanced social equation.
Regional distribution has also been prioritised, with Awadh and Kashi regions receiving the highest representation, followed by Western Uttar Pradesh and other areas.
The party has additionally inducted younger leaders and increased women representation, with twelve women appointed to key posts and several leaders under the age of 50 given important organisational roles.
Observers say the reshuffle reflects BJP’s attempt to strengthen its grassroots structure and consolidate support across diverse social and regional groups ahead of the high-stakes 2027 state elections.
