Srinagar Power Infrastructure Gets ₹93 Crore Boost From J&K Govt

Council approves Zainakote Grid augmentation and transmission line upgrades to improve electricity supply across Srinagar and adjoining areas

SRINAGAR, MAY 15: In a major step towards strengthening the power infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved power sector projects worth ₹93 crore for Srinagar and adjoining areas.

During the 6th meeting of the Council of Ministers, approval was accorded for the augmentation of the Grid Sub Station at Zainakote from 450 MVA to 780 MVA at an estimated cost of ₹67.66 crore.

The Council also approved the upgradation of the 132 KV Pampore-Rawalpora and Rawalpora-Bemina transmission lines at a cost of ₹25.47 crore.

The projects are aimed at significantly enhancing the transmission capacity, improving grid stability and ensuring reliable electricity supply to consumers across Srinagar and nearby areas. Officials said the upgrades will help reduce power interruptions and improve the efficiency of the power distribution network.

The augmentation of the Zainakote Grid Station and the transmission line upgrades are expected to play a crucial role in meeting the growing electricity demand, especially during peak load periods, while also strengthening the overall power infrastructure in the region.
