Srinagar, May 08: To mark World Red Cross Day-2026, the District Red Cross Committee Srinagar organized an impressive programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Nawa Kadal in Srinagar today.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, who is also Chairman of the District Red Cross Committee, attended the event as the chief guest.
Among others present were ADDC Rifat Aftab Qureshi, ADC Adil Fareed, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, SDM East Zubair Ahmad, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din, District Social Welfare Officer Mohammad Yousuf, Tehsildar Eidgah Mohammad Iqbal Zargar, Dy CMO Dr. Farhana, Principal GGHSS Nawa Kadal Dr. Be Nazir Chalku and Dy CEO Anjum Raja along with staff and students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significant role played by Red Cross teams and volunteers in providing timely assistance to needy people during emergencies, disasters and humanitarian situations. He said the spirit of humanity, compassion and voluntary service shown by Red Cross volunteers serves as an inspiration for society.
Akshay Labroo emphasized that Red Cross volunteers continue to support vulnerable sections of society not only during emergencies but also in everyday life through acts of kindness and humanitarian service. He encouraged students to actively participate in humanitarian and social welfare activities for the betterment of society.
The DC also stressed the importance of mental health and well-being among students, advising them to avoid unnecessary pressure and focus on studies in a positive and healthy atmosphere.
He appreciated the school administration and the District Red Cross Committee for organizing the programme aimed at promoting humanitarian values among the younger generation.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner felicitated students and distributed appreciation certificates for their participation and achievements.
Awareness sessions were also conducted to educate students about humanitarian values, social responsibility and voluntary service. Speakers highlighted the importance of World Red Cross Day and the global contributions of Red Cross volunteers.
The programme also featured cultural performances and awareness activities presented by students based on themes of humanity, peace and service to mankind.
