Pulwama, May 08: As part of the ongoing 100-day campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, a series of awareness and outreach activities were conducted across Pulwama district to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free society.
A mega awareness programme was organised at Panchayat Halqa Machama Tral with active participation from youth, social organisations, educational institutions and local residents. Speakers during the event highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse and stressed the need for collective community efforts to eradicate the menace from society.
Participants also took the Nasha Mukt pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards building a healthy and drug-free society. A signature campaign and padyatra were also organised to spread awareness against drug abuse.
Similar awareness sessions were held at Ladhoo Pampore and Malikpora Pulwama, where officers and resource persons sensitised participants about the dangers of substance abuse through interactive sessions and pledge ceremonies.
In Parigam Newa, members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) organised awareness activities and a padyatra to encourage public participation in the anti-drug campaign and educate people about the harmful consequences of addiction.
Meanwhile, intensifying enforcement measures under the campaign, the Drug Control Department in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police seized a substantial quantity of Pregabalin 300 mg capsules worth around ₹2.53 lakh from an unlicensed individual at Old Bus Stand Pulwama. During inspections, one retail and one wholesale medical establishment were also sealed on the spot for non-maintenance of mandatory records.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Pulwama also continued sports and awareness activities across different zones of the district as part of the campaign.
In Zone Pulwama, zonal-level badminton tournaments for girls and quiz competitions were organised at UPS Chewakalan. In Zone Tahab, quiz competitions were conducted at HSS Arihal and GMS Gulzarpora, while chess and volleyball competitions were held at GMS Rakh Litter.
Awareness programmes were also conducted at UPS Kawni, UPS Grawgund and MS Tumlehal. In Zone Awantipora, a zonal-level badminton tournament for U-14 and U-17 boys was organised at HSS Noorpora, while Zone Tral hosted U-17 girls’ volleyball and badminton tournaments at Bajwani Tral.
The activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from people of all walks of life, reflecting strong public support for the campaign aimed at creating a healthy, aware and drug-free society.
