Waqf Bill Will Ensure Transparency, Opposition Misleading Community: BJP’s Tarun Chugh
New Delhi, April 4: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh on Thursday defended the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, stating that it would bring transparency and accountability to the administration of Waqf boards. He accused opposition leaders of misleading the Muslim community by creating unnecessary fear over the legislation.
“Leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Asaduddin Owaisi are only misleading the Muslim community and creating artificial fear among them. This bill is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in Waqf management,” Chugh said.
Supporting the bill, Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha said that the parliamentary debate on Wednesday helped clear misunderstandings. “After Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech, all confusion disappeared. Those who were trying to create doubts among Muslims have been exposed. Pasmanda Muslims, who form the largest segment of the Muslim population in Bihar, were previously not given representation in the Waqf board,” Jha added.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, is set to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha a day after it was passed in the Lok Sabha following a marathon 12-hour debate. The bill was approved with 288 votes in favor and 232 against.
The government introduced the revised bill after incorporating recommendations from the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which reviewed the legislation introduced in August last year.
The bill seeks to amend the 1995 Waqf Act to improve the administration of Waqf properties in India. It aims to enhance efficiency by streamlining the registration process and integrating technology for better management of Waqf records.
