Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in “perfect health” despite earlier injuries, according to Ayatollah Mohsen Qomi, Member of the Assembly of Experts and Deputy for International Affairs in the office of the Supreme Leader of Iran. He said such claims and rumours are part of a “trick used by the enemy” to provoke reactions and spread misinformation.
Qomi stated that Mojtaba had been inside a building that was later bombed, where several people lost their lives, but he had stepped into the courtyard just minutes before the explosion, which he described as an act of divine protection.
He further said, “Currently, he is in perfect health and actively managing affairs. He oversees negotiations and operational matters under his direct supervision. Recently, he even gave specific instructions to the negotiating team regarding different scenarios. He has full command over the situation,” as quoted by Fars News Agency.
Qomi added that questions being raised about his health are being used to create pressure and force reactions, which he termed as a deliberate tactic by opponents. He also emphasized that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of the leadership, calling him a key figure for the Shia community.
Separately, Mohammad Hossein Ziyaeenia, Deputy Representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, told ANI that Mojtaba Khamenei is in a “good condition and fine.”
However, media reports including The New York Times claim that Mojtaba has remained largely out of public view since the February 28 airstrikes on a compound linked to Iran’s leadership, which reportedly caused casualties and restricted access to him to a small group of medical staff during recovery.
Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions continue to impact global markets. Former US President Donald Trump said the naval blockade of Iranian ports would continue, warning about instability in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices briefly surged amid fears of prolonged conflict, with Brent crude reaching its highest level since the escalation before later stabilising. (Agencies)
