Jammu/Kishtwar, May 2, 2026: In a major relief for residents of the remote Marwah Sub-Division, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Marwah has permitted the movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) on the vital Kokernag–Marwah road via Margan Top in both directions.

The order, issued on May 2, 2026, allows LMV traffic from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, subject to fair weather conditions and clearance from the PMGSY authorities. The decision comes in view of improved road conditions and aims to ease public inconvenience caused by prolonged restrictions.
Situated at an altitude of around 11,000 feet, Margan Top serves as the only functional road link connecting Marwah with Anantnag, making it a lifeline for thousands of residents. The restoration of traffic on this route is expected to significantly improve access to essential services and supplies.
However, the broader issue of connectivity continues to persist. The much-awaited Kishtwar–Marwah road, which is under construction for over four decades, remains incomplete, leaving locals dependent on the challenging Margan route.
Particularly, the 10–15 km stretch between Dachhan and Hazal has emerged as a major bottleneck, with ongoing construction work causing frequent disruptions and hardships for commuters. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns over slow progress, urging both contractors and government agencies to expedite work and address on-ground challenges.
Meanwhile, local administration has directed SHOs of Marwah and Larnoo, along with Tehsildars of Warwan and Larnoo, to ensure strict implementation of the order and proper traffic regulation.
The latest move has brought temporary relief, but the demand for a permanent and reliable road infrastructure in the region continues to grow louder.
