Jammu, May 5: Traffic Police Rural Jammu, in its continued drive against overloading and traffic violations, has lodged an FIR against the driver of a passenger bus bearing Registration No. JK02DJ-8844 for overloading and multiple violations of traffic rules.
During routine checking near Government Degree College Rajouri, Station Officer Traffic Rajouri intercepted the bus en route from Karhad to Rajouri. The vehicle, driven by Tahir Hussain, son of Zakir Hussain, resident of Karhad Rajouri, was found carrying 13 extra passengers beyond its permissible capacity, thereby posing a serious risk to passenger safety.
Further verification revealed that the vehicle has a dubious record with 36 challans, out of which 25 remain pending. It was also found that the vehicle’s Fitness Certificate had expired. Notably, the same vehicle had been challaned on April 29, 2026 for operating with an expired fitness certificate, yet it continued to ply on roads, endangering lives.
Accordingly, FIR No. 225/2026 under relevant sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Police Station Rajouri against the driver.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic Rural Jammu) Farooq Qaiser stated that the matter will be taken up with the concerned authorities for cancellation of the vehicle’s Registration Certificate as well as the Driving License of the driver involved.
He further urged all vehicle owners and drivers to strictly adhere to MV Act rules, warning that stringent action against violators will continue in the interest of public safety.
