Jammu, May 6; 2026: Continuing its crackdown on traffic violations, Traffic Police Rural Jammu has registered another FIR against a bus driver for overloading passengers and operating a vehicle without a valid fitness certificate.
According to officials, the action was taken by the Station Officer (SO) Traffic Rajouri during routine checking near Government Degree College Rajouri on May 5, 2026. A bus bearing registration number JK02DJ-8844, en route from Karhad to Rajouri, was intercepted.
During inspection, the bus was found carrying 46 passengers against the permitted capacity of 33—exceeding the limit by 13 passengers. Officials stated that such overloading poses a serious threat to passenger safety and significantly increases the risk of road accidents.
Further verification revealed a concerning record of repeated violations. The vehicle has been challaned 36 times over the past three years, with 25 challans still pending. Additionally, the bus was found operating without a valid fitness certificate, which had already expired. Notably, the same vehicle had been penalized on April 29, 2026, for the same violation, but continued to operate in defiance of regulations.
Following the violations, FIR No. 225/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Police Station Rajouri against the driver, identified as Tahir Hussain, a resident of Karhad, Rajouri.
Police officials confirmed that this is the third FIR registered in the past week for similar offences, with earlier cases reported from Surankote and Billawar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Rural Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, stated that the department will recommend cancellation of the vehicle’s registration certificate and the driver’s license. He also urged all transporters to strictly adhere to traffic norms, warning that strict enforcement will continue against violators.
