The District Administration Shopian has imposed a ban on the bursting of firecrackers after 10:00 pm for the next two months, citing concerns over public safety, noise pollution and security operations.

The order, issued by District Magistrate Shishir Gupta under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), comes into effect immediately and applies across the entire district.

The restriction prohibits the use of all types of fireworks, including firecrackers, aerial fireworks and series crackers, after the prescribed time limit.

According to the administration, late-night firecracker bursts generate loud noise that can create panic among the public, disturb peace and interfere with the functioning of security forces, particularly during anti-terror operations.

The order also highlights the adverse health effects of noise pollution, including respiratory problems, cardiovascular complications and sleep disturbances, especially among children, elderly people, patients and students.

Officials said the decision is in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court of India and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which regulate the use of firecrackers to reduce air and noise pollution.

The order will remain in force for two months, unless withdrawn or extended through a fresh notification.

The administration warned that anyone violating the restrictions will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with other applicable provisions of law.(Agencies)
