UDHAMPUR (MAJALTA), MAY 15: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Government Degree College Majalta in Udhampur district amid enthusiasm among students and local residents.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ranbir Singh Pathania, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Ram Niwas Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa, senior officers, faculty members, students and locals.
Addressing the gathering, Sakeena Itoo congratulated the college fraternity and local community on completion of the permanent campus building and reiterated the government’s commitment towards expanding access to quality education in far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister stressed the importance of educational institutions in shaping young minds and contributing towards nation-building. She said colleges and schools must play a proactive role in promoting awareness against substance abuse and guiding youth towards constructive and socially responsible activities.
Highlighting the growing challenge of drug addiction, Sakeena Itoo urged students to stay away from harmful substances and focus on education, discipline and character-building. She emphasized the role of counselling, awareness campaigns, sports activities and community participation in building a drug-free society.
She said the inauguration of the permanent building marks a significant milestone in the growth and development of Government Degree College Majalta and reflects the government’s commitment towards strengthening higher education infrastructure in rural and remote regions.
MLA Udhampur East Ranbir Singh Pathania appreciated the efforts of the college administration and reaffirmed his commitment towards educational upliftment in the constituency.
Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Ram Niwas Sharma also highlighted the importance of quality education, youth empowerment and infrastructural development in rural educational institutions.
In her welcome address, Principal Dr. Shalini Sharma presented a detailed report on the academic achievements and developmental journey of the college. She expressed gratitude to the government and Higher Education Department for their support in strengthening educational infrastructure.
The Minister also released the college newsletter, planted a sapling on the campus symbolising environmental conservation and inspected the infrastructural facilities created for students.
During the programme, students presented cultural performances and a Nukkad Natak based on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
