Speaking at a mega event marking a decade of the flagship Startup India programme, Modi highlighted that the ecosystem, which began with just four startups in 2014, now boasts over 125 active unicorns.

India has become the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world, with the total number of startups surpassing 2 lakh. The Startup India momentum continues to accelerate, with unicorns launching IPOs and generating employment opportunities.

“The youth in India are focused on solving real problems, and the Startup India mission has become a revolution,” the PM said, noting that even entrepreneurs in tier-2, tier-3 cities, and rural areas are setting up their own ventures.

Modi also highlighted gender diversity in startups, stating that 45% of startups now have at least one woman director or partner. He praised the confidence and ambition of India’s founders, saying, “Those risk-taking ideas that were once considered fringe have now become mainstream. Today’s youth do not want to remain in comfort zones.”(Agencies)
